history

BHCA was founded as Belle Fourche Christian School in the fall of 1992, with two teachers serving 12 students. Meeting in local churches for four years enabled the purchase of a facility in August 1996 just outside of Belle Fourche. Doors were opened to students in preschool through eighth grade. BFCS changed its name in 2002 to Black Hills Christian Academy. In 2008 the BHCA Board voted to move the school to Spearfish. BHCA initially leased space from a Spearfish church, but quickly outgrew that facility. In 2011, BHCA moved into our current facility at 630 S. 32nd Street in Spearfish. In 2018, BHCA and Spearfish Classical Christian School merged to continue impacting the Northern Hills with excellent Christian education for preschool-12th grades as Black Hills Christian Academy.

The Lord has been gracious to Black Hills Christian Academy. What started as 2 teachers serving 12 students is now a staff of 29 serving nearly 170 students from around the Northern Black Hills. We continue to grow in enrollment and in academic achievements, and we continue the vision of cultivating character and the academic potential of every student to impact the world for Christ.

BHCA is a member of and accredited by the Association of Christian School International (ACSI) and Cognia.
